3 fulles d'enciam

Un dels aspectes evidents i claus que ens diferencien als diferents continents, parlant en termes generals, són els avenços i les noves tecnologies. Salvant les distàncies i tenint en compte que les generalitzacions fallen per definició i manca d'exactitud.
I és en aquest sentit que en un país com EEUU hem vist introduïdes noves tecnologies i hem pogut palpar com canvien clarament la comunicació i els hàbits de les persones. Alguns ja arribats a Europa i altres de camí.
Volem destacar en tot això dos punts diferents. El primer, tens la possibilitat d'estar a tothora connectat amb qui vulguis i on vulguis. Fet que té una part negativa, ja que pots estar molt lluny de les persones i de l'ambient del teu voltant en aquell precís moment, però té una part excel.lent, només cal pensar que amb la nostra família ens hem vist i hem estat comunicats durant tots aquests mesos des de qualsevol racó de món, amb millors o pitjors instruments.
Aquest fet crea canvis en l’ambient ja que darrera tot això hi ha un munt de cafès plens de gent només amb els ulls clavats a la pantalla, la gent parlant sola pel carrer a través d'auriculars i un ús constant de iPots, iPhones i no sabem quants més noms de nous aparells amb funcionament permanent. Però al mateix temps hi ha una gran facilitat per trobar informació, per poder treballar des de casa o des d'una plaça, o per saber que està passant a on vulguis del nostre planeta terra.
El segon punt és que hem vist una filosofia en comerços, bars i altres serveis de fes-t'ho tu mateix. I també això té dues vessants. En un sentit demana que sàpigues tot com funciona, fet que només necessita entrar en aquesta dinàmica, i com a resultat obtindràs la precisió, rapidesa i agilitat pel que busques, podràs escollir la quantitat de sucre que vols al cafè, les 3 fulles d'enciam en un entrepà o la quantitat exacte de minuts en una targeta de metro. I com a contrapartida et trobaràs que en algunes situacions no hi ha marge pels paràmetres intermedis, la resposta ha de ser blanc o negre, no hi ha una franja gris davant certs funcionaments i de vegades et trobes lluny de poder ser atès per una persona.
En resum, la nostra capacitat de pensar i escollir com a persones humanes és la que ens pot permetre viure feliçment amb les noves tecnologies. Tot dependrà fins on deixem que formin part de la nostra rutina, quins funcionaments són avantatjosos i útils, i quins innecessaris. Nosaltres, mostrem quina importància tenen les persones que formen part de la nostra vida i cap a on desviem l'atenció, i el temps, cada hora que passa.

One of the key aspects of the differences between continents are the breakthroughs in high tech, although we are aware of most of general assertions fail by definition and they lack accuracy into account.
Is in this sense that in a country like EEUU we have experienced the changes in habits and people’s comunications trough the introduction of new technologies. Some arrived in Europe and other possibly on the way.
Thus, we want to highlight two different points in all of this. The first, that high tech allows you being in touch at anytime and anywhere in the world with anybody. As result of that, there's a negative aspect because you don’t pay attention of people who are around you, but also there’s a positive side that comes directly trough our minds, just glancing back the trip we’ve done letting us being in touch with our families for such a long time.
So this changes due to new technologies, in one hand let us see many bars with a lot of people on their own, people on the streets talking by earphones and others using iPods and iPhones permanently. On the other hand, this new tools make easy our access to information, let many people to work from home and keep us up dated about the fresh news in the world.
The second point is the rise of the philosophy of Do It Yourself in shops, bars, restaurants and others. And this issue has two different aspects too. By one side, once the consumers acquire how to use this new tools, then they can customize his product, so they can get it as fast as they want, with the amount of sugar that they desire, the 3 leaves of lettuce in their sandwich and even the exact amount of metro car. On the other side, you may be involved in situations that you have to choose between white and black because grey doesn’t exist dealing with machines and you require someone to talk to desperately.
All in all, we think that our capacity of adjustment with the new technologies is what will allow us to live happy. Thus, it will depends on everyone of us to find out the best way to fit this breakthrough in our common live and gave its importance when it really is deserved.

ITINERARI New Mexico, Arizona, California & Maryland

Tot i el gran interès que segur que tenen els estats de New Mexico i Arizona, no tenim més temps per aturar-nos, així doncs, seguim les llargues autopistes fent altre cop una bona tirada de milles per arribar a Los Angeles el dia esperat, on finalment ens trobem amb la Mireia a l'aeroport. Decidim no visitar encara la ciutat i agafem el cotxe direcció nord, la primera parada serà a Carpinteria i ens servirà de punt de sortida per descobrir Santa Barbara, un lloc de platja tranquil i agradable, ple d'estiuejants. Continuarem per endinsar-nos en un paisatge de vinyes fantàstic, camí de Santa Maria, ens mourem entre els tastets de vi i ceps que van donar vida a la pel.lícula Entre copas.
Després comencem la ruta per la costa de Califòrnia. La primera parada és a San Simeon, on visitem el Hearts Castle, conegut per la seva arquitectura, riquesa, i per ser un lloc on famoses figures eren convidades.
Continuant la costa veiem munts de foques marines jeien a les platges, amuntegades unes sobre les altres, sense més acció que algun ronc o mossegada de tant en tant. La ruta per la costa és excel.lent, qualsevol moment és bo per parar-te en la sinuosa carretera i observar el mar donant cops a les roques i a la terra abrupta que el voreja. Així doncs, sense presses anem seguint el camí.
La pròxima parada és Half Moon Bay on rebem una càlida acollida de la Kathy i la seva filla Alicia que ens conviden a passar la nit a casa seva, i on coneixerem també la Mary Lou. Junts compartirem una bona estona!
I seguim endavant, aquesta vegada fins a San Francisco, una ciutat peculiar i encantadora, amb carrers de forta pendent que donen bones vistes de la ciutat, un gran port, uns bons parcs per reposar, carrers de botigues, la presó d'Alcatraz, uns barris característics per l'origen de la seva gent, com Chinatown i Little Italy, o altres coneguts per moviments socials en defensa de gays i lesbianes, com el barri de Castro, i com no, un famós Golden Gate Bridge que ens va portar fora de la ciutat i des d'on fem una breu parada a la Universitat de Berkley.
El següent destí, els parcs naturals. D'una banda el Yosemite National Park, format per immenses roques de granit que deixen caure l'aigua en forma de cascada i que combinen amb una vegetació de pins sobretot. D'altra banda, el Sequoia National Park, conegut per tenir els arbres amb més volum de fusta del món, amb una extensió increïble i un entorn immillorable, com és el cas del General Sherman Tree que fa 11m de diàmetre. No hi ha prou paraules per definir la bellesa de cada un d'aquests parcs, i amb l'afegit que ens va quedar molt encara per veure.
En aquest punt del viatge fem camí de tornada a Los Angeles, on passarem uns quants dies. La ciutat és molt extensa i el fet que ja no tinguem cotxe ens limita totalment, tot i així, visitem el passeig de les famoses estrelles, el Kodak Theatre i el Chinese Theatre de Hollywood, veiem les platges de Santa Mònica i Venice on pots trobar qualsevol tipus de vestimenta o activitat, voltem amb cotxe per Beverly Hills i Rodeo Drive per veure luxoses botigues de renom, i visitem un downtown per nosaltres poc interessant. En aquesta ciutat fem un nou couchsurfing, serà a casa en Jon i la Liz, amb qui passem bons moments i ens permeten entendre millor quina és la vida en una zona on molta gent ve perseguint el conegut somni americà, ple d’il.lusions, però també decepcions, en una ciutat on les coses són tan efimeres i on els locals, les modes i les botigues es troben en un trànsit cosntant.
I ja només ens queda acompanyar la Mireia a l'aeroport, i un cop allà ens adonem de com de ràpid han passat aquestes dues setmanes! I com de ràpid passa tot plegat...perquè volem a Washington, una ciutat que ens encanta i ens sorprèn, fem una breu visita a la Casa Blanca, al National Mall i al cementiri d'Arlinton, mentre estem instal.lats a casa en Brain i la Lauren, i ja agafem el nostre vol cap a la Xina!! Nou continent i noves sensacions del nostre camí!

Despite of New Mexico and Arizona states seems very interesting, we were running out of time so we just experienced the large highways which took us to L.A where Mireia was expecting us. We picked her up in the airport and we drove up to the coast until Carpinteria. We slept in a motel and from this city we visited two areas: Santa Barbara, whose beaches were really nice and Santa Maria and its surroundings fulls of vineyards, where the movie “Sideways” was shot. Next stop was in San Simeon where we came over the Hearts castle, well known by its architecture and the famous people from Hollywood who where hosted in either. We kept following the coast enjoying the beauty of its landscape and watching tons of elephant seals laying in the sand . Traveling up north to Half Moon Bay, we spent one night in Kathy’s and Alice house. There we had a nice dinner talking with them and her friend Mari Lou who made us feel like being at home.
The following day we drove to San Francisco, a particular and wonderful city with its up and down slope roads, a big harbour, green parks, the Alcatraz jail, and different neighborhoods like Little Italy, Chinatown or Castro which is known for its challenge of the gay and lesbian rights. Finally, we drove across the gorgeous Golden Gate Bridge until Berkeley where we visited the University.
Next step was facing two Nationals Parks. One was Yosemite National Park recognized for its huge amounts of granite stones, waterfalls and landscape. And the other was Sequoia National Park well known for having the trees with the biggest amount of wood in the world. As a curiosity, General Sherman’s tree has 11 metres of diameter.
After that, we came back to L.A and we started exploring it. The city is huge, bad communicated and leaving the car made difficulties higher due to explore it. However, we visited the Kodak Theatre, the Street of the Fame and the Chinese Theatre in Hollywood; Santa Monica and Venice beaches; Beverly Hills and his famous Rodeo Drive Rd where the most expensive shops are located; and finally, the Downtown that didn't have any appeal at all. In that city we couchsurf one more time. It was with Jon and Liz, with them we had a very good time and they gave us a lot of information about the city, like the meaning for many people who goes to live in looking forward to fulfill their dreams, sometimes successfully and other times turning out to big deceptions, or how in L.A everything is make up in a few moments and disappear in the same amount of time.
We went along with Mireia to the airport and then we realized how fast time goes by. Not only for the last two weeks, also for the last months because after that, we flew to Washington where we visited the White House, the National Mall and Arlington Cemetery, staying at the house of Brian and Lauren, and it was time to took the next flight to China!!! New sensations and experiences in our road!

Moments

Quan l'Ariadna i l'Eduard van decidir fer el llarg viatge ja sabíem que en algun moment, en algun lloc del camí ens trobaríem.
Després de set mesos aquest instant va arribar i va ser a l'altre costat de l'Atlàntic, als Estats Units, concretament, a Los Angeles.
Quan planeges un viatge, sigui amb amics, família o la parella, tens un munt de sensacions, il.lusions, pensaments de com anirà, què passarà, quines aventures viuràs...En el meu cas els dies previs al viatge van estar moguts per una successió de moments i pensaments d'incertesa, de nerviosisme, d'inquietud, però el que més em neguitejava, el que més em colpia, i amb el que havia imaginat, pensat, somiat moltes vegades era el retrobament, l'instant. L'instant aquell que busques dues cares més que conegudes entre la multitud, on les mirades es creuen i arriba el que tantes vegades havia visualitzat.
És llavors quan començo a compartir amb ells uns dies del seu viatge, com diuen, en un moment d'incertesa global.

When Ariadna and Eduard decided to take the trip, we all knew that sometime, somewhere our paths would cross again. After seven months, that particular moment arrived on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, specifically in Los Angeles.
When you start planning a trip, with friends, family or a couple, many sensations and illusions come to your mind. In my case, this happened in the days before I left home. Thoughts and moments came together bringing nervousness and anxiety that shook all my body, wanting to live that special moment that I had dreamt of since the date of their departure; our meeting.
From that moment on I would go along with them, sharing all those experiences that traveling would offer us, and as they say in the title of their blog, this would happen in "un moment d'incertesa global" which means a period where the world is trembling.

ITINERARI Virgina,Tennessee,Mississippi,Louisiana & Texas

Passem uns quants dies conduïnt, volem travessar Virgina pel Shenandoah National Park i seguir per un munt de camins que sabem que les vistes han de ser spectaculars, però una boira espesa i la pluja ens en fan desdir. Així doncs ens toca autopista fins a les portes de Nashville, per poder agafar el Natchez Trace Pkwy, una petita carretera, coberta de vegetació que tot just comença a brotar, fem moltes milles sense trànsit, envoltats d’arbres i amb uns paratges genials que ens fan el viatge ben agradable fins entrar a Mississippi. Parem a Vicksburg, on ens passagem al costat del mític riu Mississippi i visitem algunes de les Plantation House, les antigues i espectaculars cases de les plantacions de cotó del s.XIX, la seva arquitectura i els grans jardins fan que avui en dia encara siguin admirades.
Seguint la direcció del riu arribem fins a New Orleans, ciutat de naixement de Louis Armstrong, un lloc ben peculiar, amb un famós centre de botigues, bars i locals de música anomenat French Quartier, un barri de alts gratacels i centre de negocis davant el riu, i un entorn ple de cases unifamiliars. Al primer veïnat on dormim, el pas del Katrina encara és ben present, façanes per renovar, cases abandonades, vidres trencats, fustes caigudes...Però al següent barri les cases són noves, ben pintades, cuidades i amb un bon jardí. Tot i que no presenciem cap espectacle de música, notem la seva presència pels carrers, on espontanis toquen la guitarra, el violí o improvitzen Jazz.
Deixem Louisiana i entrem a Texas, la primera parada és Austin, la capital, també amb molt moviment musical, encara que aquesta vegada més proper al country, i ple d’esdeveniments culturals, la ciutat en sí no té massa interès, el que més ens crida l’atenció és una gran piscina natural no massa lluny del centre. Evoltats de ranxos ens movem per una zona de petits pobles texans com Wimberly, Bandera o Fredericksburg, tot i que no acabem de veure massa bestiar, ja que des de la carretera només pots veure el principi d’una immensa propietat.
Reemprenem l'extensa highway 10 fins a Sonora, on passem la nit agitats per un fort vent fred, i a partir d’aquí comencen milles i milles enmig del no-res, la terra és àrida i les carreteres llarguíssimes. Arribem a Marathon, un poble de quatre cases, qui sap si algunes abandonades, amb patis plens de trastos i un silenci trencat només pel vent, enmig d’aquest paisatge trobem el millor lloc on haurem dormit mai, La Loma del Chivo. L’estructura és el primer que et crida l’atenció, són petits edificis de formes arrodonides contsruïdes a base d’una massa de paper, encara que increïble, l’estructura és perfecte i dóna un to molt peculiar, estan decorats de colors i amb materials reciclats de diferents tipus formant autèntiques obres d’art a cada racó. Amb l’afegit que en Guil i l’Stan són dos persones excel.lents.
Des d’aquest punt tenim accés al Big Bend National Park, un dels parcs menys visitats d’EEUU, però no perquè no sigui atractiu, al contrari, és fascinant poder moure’t entre un desert de cactus i arbustos, al peu de les rocoses Chisos Mountains i banyar-te en unes aigües termals naturals al costat del petit Río Grande a pocs metres de Méjico.
Finalment tornem a l'autopista 10 direcció El Paso disposats a deixar Texas, amb ganes de continuar cap a l’oest perquè quan arribem a California ens espera una visita de casa ben especial!

Ready to drive we would liked to get Virginia across Shenandoah National Park to experience there spectacular views, but we changed our minds because of the bad weather conditions, the fog and the rain. That's why we drove on the highway until Nashville, where we arrived at Natchez Trail Pkwy, a small road canopied with vegetation that was sprouting. There was no traffic, we were just sourrounded by trees and an awesome environment that made our trip pleasant all the way Mississippi. Next stop was Vicksburg. We walked next to the Mississippi River and we came upon some old and spectacular cotton plantation houses dated back to in the nineteenth century, whose architecture and big gardens are still admired by the tourists for their beauty.
Following the river we arrived at New Orleans, a city where Louis Armstrong was born. Ii is a special place, with a famous center full of shops, pubs and music called French Quartier, a financial district with skyscrapers in front of the river, and a detached-house neighborhoods. We spent two days in a place where Katrina's damage is still present. However, nice and careful houses with great gardens were in the second house we slept in. Although we didn't go to any music show, we heard music everywhere in the streets, where people played the guitar, violin or improvised jazz.
We left Louisiana in order to go to Texas, we stopped in Austin, the capital which has many cultural acts and lots of music attractions. We had the chance of seeing a great performance of country music at Jenny's little Longhorn. Apart from that, the city didn't have more interest for us, except for a natural pool near the center. We walked around some ranches between small villages like Wimberley, Bandera or Fredericksburg, but their extensions were so big that we couldn't see any cattle from the road.
We kept driving on 10 Hwy until Sonora where we spent one night feeling the cold heavy wind. From that point we started passing miles and miles in the middle off nowhere, in dry lands and long roads. We arrived in Marathon, a tiny village with deserted houses, junk in the gardens and a silence just broken by the wind. It was there where we found the best place we've ever slept, La Loma del Chivo. We were very surprised by its structure, rounded small houses made of paper, although it seems impossible. The result is perfectly amazing and they are decorated using different colors and all kinds of recycling materials. In short, there is some work of art in any part of the house. In addition, Guil and Stan where two excellent people!
From there we entered Big Ben National Park, which receives fewer visitors than any other national park in this country. In spite of that, it was very interesting to visit a desert full of cactus and bushes, and to soak in a natural hot spring just a few meters from the border of Mexico, next to the Rio Grande. The beautiful rocky Chisos Mountains complete the panorama.
We left the village of Marathon and kept driving on our way to California, where we were expecting a special visit from home!
