Des del principi del viatge teníem clar que volíem visitar la Fundación Vicente Ferrer - Rural Development Trust, n'havíem sentit parlar, però desconeixíem la seva essència.
La nostra arribada a Anantapur va ser per descobrir una nova realitat en la zona més àrida de la Índia, després, és clar, del Rajasthan.
És difícil escriure el que volem dir utilitzant només unes línies, perquè hi ha molt per explicar sobre el recorregut del Father Ferrer, Baba, Padre Ferrer, o per nosaltres, Vicenç Ferrer. El que hem llegit ens ha ajudat a comprendre la realitat que hem vist, amb tot i hem d'afegir les visites als projectes, la hospitalitat de tots els indis i índies que treballen a la fundació i dels que se'n beneficien, i per últim la trobada amb la seva dona, l'Anna Ferrer (Anne Perry, foto amb nosaltres).
Tot plegat ens ha portat a veure un projecte d'esforç, constància, respecte i humanitat que ha convertit una zona àrida, en fèrtil, i ha facilitat a la població dels anomenats intocables i a les comunitats tribals, tenir els drets més bàsics coberts, especialment en educació i salut.
Cada paràmetre del projecte és totalment pensat amb la màxima curositat i excel.lència, no hi ha lloc per entreteniments o feines a mitges, és un projecte integral, especialitzat en cada àrea i assessorat per un grup de bons professionals. Els voluntaris, complementen algunes tasques, però són la mateixa població índia responsable del desenvolupament de cada àrea, respectant les seves creences i cultura.
L'acollida al Campus és cordial i agradable, i la sorpresa omple de converses cada un dels visitants o padrins que per alguna qüestió o altre hem volgut formar part d'aquesta història encara que sigui per uns instants. L'austeritat i la proximitat a les persones segueix sent una premissa bàsica pel desenvolupament de l'entitat, són 40 anys d'entrega absoluta per una terra i una població que no ha deixat d'admirar l'anomenat home del paraigua. L'home que va arribar a Mumbai de missioner i aviat va saber escoltar i veure les necessitats que existien, que va revolucionar la zona, que va ser expulsat i temut per molts mentre altres el veneraven, que finalment després d'un exili forçat van deixar tornar a entrar a la Índia donant-li com a destí Andra Pradesh, una terra de sequia i desesperances que Vicenç mai va témer sinó que el va incentivar a iniciar el seu projecte integral cap a les persones d'aquella terra.
A l'edat de 89 i deixant un llegat inimaginable de riquesa en salut, educació, medi ambient i habitatges, va morir en el mateix lloc on va dedicar els darrers 40 anys de la seva vida, a la mother India, al costat de la seva familia.
Després del desencant en la cooperació internacional i la possibilitat de minorar les diferencies entre rics i pobres, a nosaltres, la visita a la FVF-RDT ens ha ofert una al.lenada d'aire pur per creure encara en les possibiltats del canvi.
The man with his umbrella
When we started planning our trip in India we feel like visiting the NGO Fundación Vicente Ferrer - Rural Development Trust due to some references we got,especially by a friend.
It is difficult to explain in a few sentences what the named Father Ferrer, Baba, Padre Ferrer, or for us Vicenç Ferrer, represents in this area. We caught a glimpse of it reading a while, but the better information we gather, It was visiting the projects they are building up, talking with the Indian workers and our meeting with Anna Ferrer (Anne Perry, picture above).
All in all, a project based on efforts, steady work and respect for religion's diversity and mankind thoughts either. All of this has transform an arid area to a fertile one, giving the basic rights to the untouchable people, providing them health assistance and education.
Every single inch of this vision has been rethinked, planned and implemented by many specialized professionals in every field, who had taught and advised the Indian people, who once had acquired the knowledge they spread it to other locals. Thus, professionals, volunteers and Indians working together with a common goal; eradicate poverty as far as their means let them go.
Our welcome in RDT-FVF was very kind, and we share our admiration for the work done with other visitors and sponsors of the children which feel proud of their investment in this cause.
FVF keeps following the premise of austerity and nearness to people which began 40 years ago,they keep carry on developments through the villages and landscapes, where dalits as a sign of admiration show the pictures of the man with his umbrella.
He arrived in Mumbai as a missioner following the orders done by the Jesuits, and soon he realized the needs of the people, which were farther away from praying and expecting the wealth to come on his own, so he provided action and results. Later he was fired from India for awhile, but later he had the chance to take up a new adventure in Andra Pradesh, the aridest state after Rajasthan, expecting him to decline the offer. On the contrary, he start a new integral project not for the people, if not with the people.
At the age of 89 years old and leaving wealth, education, environmental assets and homes for the poor, died in his land, with his people and family after 40 years of struggles, challenges and succeeds. He brought the seeds for better generations and his spirit and work will linger on in the Indian minds and the rest of the world.
Traveling around the globe we’ve been deceived by many cooperation movements and projects, FVF-RDT has shown us the path of effective cooperation as well as give us the strength to believe in changes.

Hola guapos!!! M'alegro molt que us hagi agradat la fundació. Més que tot us escric perquè demà a les 7h del matí volem cap L.A. He escrit a La Liz al facebook i segurament quedarem un dia per anar a sopar. Suposo que també vindrà en john. Bé nois anirem estant en contacte. Encara que ja veig que aquesta vegada molt poc. Que vagi bé el vol cap a les Filipines.
